Only 1 Thing is Necessary

Good Morning.  Here’s Today’s Nugget to chew on:

“Only 1 Thing is Necessary”

Luke 10:38-42 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

38 Now while they were on their way, it occurred that Jesus entered a certain village, and a woman named Martha received and welcomed Him into her house.  39 And she had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord’s feet and was listening to His teaching.

40 But Martha [overly occupied and too busy] was distracted with much serving; and she came up to Him and said, Lord, is it nothing to You that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me [to lend a hand and do her part along with me]!

41 But the Lord replied to her by saying, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things;

42 There is need of only one or but a few things. Mary has chosen the good portion [that which is to her advantage], which shall not be taken away from her.

——–

Further Thought:  Jesus knew Martha needed help.  However, he wanted to give her the root cause of why she was distracted, anxious, and troubled and wasn’t enjoying what she desired to do for Jesus.  Martha wasn’t taking the time to sit at the Master’s feet to hear the Word of God.  Yes, we all have important things to do; however, we shouldn’t allow anything to take priority over us spending time in God’s word.  Verse 42 above reminds us that when we take the time to hear God’s Word, we give ourselves an advantage that can’t be taken away.  So, let’s follow the example of Mary and seek that one thing, and that is God’s Word, and allow it to guide our day.

Have a great day, and keep chewing on God’s Word.
