“Reach Out”

Mark 2:15-17 Good News Translation (GNT)

15 Later on Jesus was having a meal in Levi’s house. A large number of tax collectors and other outcasts [sinners] was following Jesus, and many of them joined him and his disciples at the table.

16 Some teachers of the Law, who were Pharisees, saw that Jesus was eating with these outcasts and tax collectors, so they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat with such people?”

17 Jesus heard them and answered, “People who are well do not need a doctor, but only those who are sick. I have not come to call respectable people, but outcasts.”

Further Thought:  The Bible describes Jesus as our great physician [Psalm 103:2-3].  Today’s passage reminds us that we should follow the example of Jesus by taking time to fellowship with those of the household of faith and those who don’t believe and conduct themselves as we do.  Think about it: if you and I don’t show them what God is like, who will?  Remember you and I are now ambassadors for Christ, His representatives on the earth [2 Corinthians 5:20].
