The Authority of the Believer

Good Morning.  Here’s Today’s Nugget to chew on:

“The Authority of the Believer”

Mark 11:22-23 King James Version (KJV)

22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Further Thought:  These are the words of Jesus in response to his disciples [followers] witnessing the fig tree that He cursed and now was dried up from the roots.  Let’s keep in mind this is not prayer. Jesus was telling his disciples that faith is released by the spoken word. Did you notice 3 times in verse 23 above it stressed speaking?  Believers speak to God about their problems; this verse says we are to use our authority and speak to our problems about God.  Let’s recognize if Jesus told us to do it, He’s not going to do it for us.  So, let’s not continue to make the mistake of praying about something we’ve been commanded to speak to.

Jesus said, as a believer in him, if you have a mountain [problem or something you want removed] you speak to it.  This is the authority we’ve been given as believers.  Now, it’s important not to miss what Jesus also said in today’s passage: ‘ We have to believe what we say and not doubt”.  When we say things we don’t believe, it hurts our faith (confidence) in God’s Word.  So, before we start to speak to our mountains lets ensure we are fully persuaded of what we are about to confess.  Romans 10:17 reminds us that we become fully persuaded in God’s Word by continuing to hear it.  This process is called the renewing of our minds.

Let’s understand that Jesus doesn’t want his followers, his ambassadors, waiting for someone to pray for them. Instead, He said, we are to speak to anything that steals, kills, or destroys. Yes, Jesus cursed a fig tree, but we have been given the authority to speak to anything that’s attempting to rob us of the abundant life Jesus came to provide us, according to John 10:10b, which includes our healing.

Have a great day, and keep chewing on God’s Word.
