“Follow Wise Counsel”

Matthew 23:1-3 New Living Translation (NLT)

1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses. 3 So practice and obey whatever they tell you, but don’t follow their example. For they don’t practice what they teach.

Further Thought:  Growing up, I often heard the comment, “Do as I say, not as I do.”  I thought until running across today’s passage that didn’t make any sense.  After discovering today’s truth, I now understand that was good advice.  You see, sometimes our elders and the people we look up to know what to do, but for some reason, they won’t do the right thing.  But their wise counsel demonstrated their love by not wanting us to travel in their path.  So today, despite what our loved ones and leaders are doing, let’s continue to love them in both word (prayer) and deed and keep pursuing righteousness (God’s way of doing and being right).
