Good Morning. Here’s Today’s Nugget to chew on:
“Stop & Listen”
Mark 9:2-7 Living Bible (TLB)
2 Six days later Jesus took Peter, James and John to the top of a mountain. No one else was there. Suddenly his face began to shine with glory, 3 and his clothing became dazzling white, far more glorious than any earthly process could ever make it!
4 Then Elijah and Moses appeared and began talking with Jesus! 5 “Teacher, this is wonderful!” Peter exclaimed. “We will make three shelters here, one for each of you… ”
6 He said this just to be talking, for he didn’t know what else to say and they were all terribly frightened. 7 But while he was still speaking these words, a cloud covered them, blotting out the sun, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”

Further Thought: As we read in the New Testament, Peter always had something to say. What Peter had to say in verse 6 didn’t add any value to what God was doing. In today’s passage, we see Jesus separating Peter, James, and John from the other twelve disciples, not for them to speak but to listen. It’s the same for you and me today. Yes, we must speak the Word of God and spend time in prayer. But it’s even more important, as today’s passage illustrates, that we take time to listen to what God is saying.
The primary way God speaks to us is through His Word and by the Holy Spirit [His Spirit], who lives inside of everyone who has received His Son, Jesus, as their Lord. The Holy Spirit is always speaking, as Jesus reminds us in John 16:13-15, and He only speaks what He hears from Jesus and the Father. By taking the time to listen, we allow God access to provide the answers we are seeking. He’s not going to scream or make us listen to what He has to say. No, that decision is entirely up to us. So as we start this new day, let’s make the quality decision to speak less and listen more.
Have a great day, and keep chewing on God’s Word.
