Act on the Word

Good Monday Morning.  Here’s Today’s Nugget to chew on:

“Act on the Word”

John 4:46-53 New King James Version (NKJV)

46 So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.

48 Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”  49 The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”

50 Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.

51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!”

52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.

Further Thought: Let’s remember that at the time the actions in today’s passage took place, there were no printed Bibles.  No, the people simply had to act on the word they heard from Jesus.  John 1:1-4 reminds us that Jesus is the Word.  So, when the nobleman heard, believed, and acted on what the Word (Jesus) said, the Kingdom was manifested in this life and in the physical body of his son.  We also have the account in Matthew 20:30 of two blind men: when they heard that the Word [Jesus] was passing by, they took what He had made available and received their sight.  We also have the account of the centurion in Matthew 8:5-13, who also believed what the Word [Jesus] said, and his servant was healed.  And we have the account of the woman who had experienced uncontrollable bleeding for 12 years in Mark 5:25-34, who, when she heard that the Word was also passing by, she made a demand on the Word [Jesus] and took her healing.  Even today, whatever we find ourselves in need of, we must follow the examples of those in the passages above by acting on what the Word of God has provided as the solution.  James 2:17 reminds us that faith [trust/confidence] in God without corresponding action is dead.  Yes, we must “Act on the Word.”

Have a great day, and keep chewing on God’s Word.
