“Our Only Work”

What exactly does God want us to do?” the people asked. Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent [Jesus].”

Further Thought:  According to John 1:1, Jesus is the Word.  So, according to today’s passage, our only work is to labor to believe what the Word (Jesus) said.  This process, according to Romans 12:2, is called the renewing of our minds.  The word of God is our compass for life.  When we take the time to labor in God’s word, He is then able to guide and direct us to victory in every area of our lives. Mark 11:22-26 reminds us that our part is to believe what God has provided and to receive it by faith. And the seed of God’s word will do its part in producing what we believe we receive. Yes, it’s as simple as that.  Jesus didn’t add any other requirements, and neither should we.

As we’ve discussed in the past, let’s keep it simple by disciplining ourselves to read and meditate on one chapter of God’s Word each day, Monday through Friday.  If you are new to reading God’s word, I would recommend starting in the “New Testament” with the book of John, then reading Matthew through Revelation.  When you develop this habit, you allow the seed of God’s word to “transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2 New Living Translation (NLT)
